Digital Nomad: California
California has to be one of my favorite places in this world. So when the opportunity arose to pack up and head to Walnut Creek for work in January 2017 - we sprung into action. We had just a couple weeks to prepare and my passport had expired - not sure how I let that happen! So before we could leave we had a trip to Halifax, Nova Scotia for an emergency passport renewal!
Once we were all straightened away and the day arrived we headed West! When we arrived in San Fransisco, we took the train to Walnut Creek and hunkered down in a gorgeous hotel for the week. It was a great workspace, as I could work in the lobby surrounded by water features, great food, and amazing foliage about 10 stories high!
During this trip I kept up my day to day job with Discover Charlottetown, working on their travel guide that was due to be released in April.
Jonathan was spending his days working at the library downtown with his colleagues on a solution to a software problem they'd encountered. I journeyed out into Walnut Creek one day of the week, visited the library, got lunch with Jonathan and his co-worker, and then walked back to the hotel. By that point, I was in need of some socializing and fresh air!
Obviously, we adventured out into the bustling metropolis of Walnut Creek in search of good brews! We found this spot called OL - it was super hipster and very fun.
Once all was said and done, we headed back to San Fransisco to live like tourists for the weekend.
Work, work, work
We used this as an opportunity to capture some content for my business, Local Legends Apparel, and do some sightseeing! We took photos on the Golden Gate Bridge in tshirts while the locals were bundled up like it was practically winter.
One of my favourite experiences was the Alcatraz Penitentiary Boat Tour - we really enjoyed learning about the Island and some of the outlandish stories of prisoners over the years. Some sad, some mind-blowing, and some were just funny.
Overall, our stay in San Fran was entirely too short and I cannot wait to return someday!
